The Subculture Palette by ABH – Why All The Controversy: This year has been a great one for the beauty industry! There have been some amazing new releases and collections and as a beauty blogger I have tried to keep up and buy as many of the new products as possible! One of the biggest and most anticipated releases was the Anastasia Beverley Hills Subculture palette. After the Modern Renaissance palette, which is now considered a cult beauty item, it was only natural that people would be excited about the ‘sister’ palette! When the palette design and colour selection was leaked early, the reaction was very divided – many people loved the unusual mix of colours while others couldn’t see how they could ever use them. Personally, I immediately loved the selection and couldn’t wait for the palette to come out!

Summer’s Gone But Not Forgotten - My Summer Bronze Haul: It’s officially Autumn! As much as I love the heat and sunshine of Summer, Autumn and Winter are my favourite times of year! I love my winter woollies, crunching leaves, autumn colours and comfort food! The change in season also heralds a change in makeup and skincare – see the guest post by Brigitte Evans for advice on the latter! Whilst I am enjoying creating makeup looks to reflect autumn colours and themes, I have loved my Summer makeup looks and being bronzed and glowy! So, before Summer leaves our minds completely for another year, I wanted to share one of my favourite makeup hauls from the Summer months!

Brand Focus The Beauty That Is Tarte Cosmetics: Tarte was founded by Maureen Kelly from her bedroom in 1999! She created the brand out of a frustration with the beauty industry and the number of brands that still used chemicals, parabens and other unhealthy ingredients. She also wanted her makeup to be visually pleasing but felt there was nothing that ticked this box either. And so, Tarte was born! Today tarte is a leader in healthy, eco-friendly beauty, offering cruelty-free cosmetics containing super fruit and plant extracts, vitamins, minerals, essential oils and other naturally-derived ingredients. All the products are formulated without parabens, mineral oil, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfate, triclosan, synthetic fragrances and gluten, just to name a few. To make the brand even more discerning, it has super long staying power and covers budge proof, waterproof, sweatproof and SPF formulas. Not only that, but the packaging is designed to be beautiful and environmentally friendly! The brand supports cooperatives in the Rainforest and develops sustainable components that can often be re-used to help reduce environmental waste. Equally important is that the brand is cruelty free and offers Vegan products.

Juvia’s Place Magic Palette – It Truly Is Magical: 2017 has so far been a great year for makeup! From amazing lipsticks and highlighters to gorgeous eye products, there has been an endless line of new things to try and I have spent a small fortune keeping up! I’ve particularly loved collecting new eyeshadow palettes of which there have been many! As a part time makeup artist eye makeup is one of my favourite areas to develop and improve so having a vast collection of eye makeup is high priority! One of the most anticipated eye palette releases this year was the Juvia’s Place Magic Palette! I already have the Nubian Palette 2 which I fell in love with immediately so when I found about this palette I knew it would be a winner and one I had to have in my repertoire! If you have never heard of Juvia’s Place, it is a cosmetics brand which was created in 2014 by Chichi Eburu, a Nigerian born wife and mother of two. She wanted to create a brand that was truly representative of her culture and took her inspiration from Queen Nefertiti, whose image is used on all the packaging. Juvia’s Place was initially known for great makeup brushes but now the name is synonymous with amazingly colourful and highly pigmented eye shadows! The brand is against animal testing and almost everything created is vegan.

Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics – How Lush Are They: As a beauty blogger, I try to test as many products and brands as possible. I like to keep up with trends, new releases and innovations so that I can keep all my readers up to date! So far in 2017, I have spent a lot of time testing skincare brands, partly because as I age I am more conscious of how important my skincare routine is and what I use on my skin but also because there are so many wonderful products to try now! There is something for every skin type, every age bracket and every budget so there is no excuse not to look after your skin! One of the brands I always knew of but had never really tried was Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics. Lush has been around for many years in different guises, and was started by Mark Constantine and Liz Weir in the 1970s in Poole, England. In the 1980s they joined forces with The Body Shop and worked with the brand for over a decade before The Body Shop decided to buy their formulas. As a result of the purchase, Mark and Liz were unable to open a new store of their own for 5 years and so they created an online mail order service called Cosmetics To Go. This was also successful and eventually bought by someone in Poole who took the formulas and the name. Along with the new owners of Cosmetics To Go, Mark and Liz then created Lush in 1995 and in 1996 the first international Lush store was opened in Vancouver, Canada. Since then, the brand has expanded across North America, has created a charity program called Charity Pot and an annual Lush Prize, which is awarded to individuals working in the field of cruelty-free scientific research, awareness-raising and lobbying to help bring an end to animal testing.

How Much Love Does ‘The Too Faced Natural Love Palette’ Deserve: As a beauty blogger and a makeup artist, I am obsessed with palettes! Whether they are lip palettes, eye palettes or blusher palettes, I collect them all. They are so useful when doing makeup on different people with varying skin tones, eye colours and face shapes, they are often cost effective and space saving in a makeup kit. Over the years I have amassed a vast collection of different palettes from different brands and I am always on the lookout for new releases, particularly in eyeshadows as eye makeup is always my focus, both on myself and for my clients. One such palette that was recently released is the Too Faced Natural Love palette. Too Faced is well known for its high-quality cruelty free makeup. It is a very popular brand, created by Jerrod Blandino and Jeremy Johnson in the 90s to bring some life and colour back into the cosmetics industry and since then the company has created some truly gorgeous fun and feminine makeup, including some lovely eyeshadow palettes. Their eyeshadows are generally very pigmented and available in a number of colours and textures so when they released news of the Natural Love palette there was huge excitement. Before long people in other parts of the world were posting pictures of it and swatches of the shadows. After a lot of researching, I decided I was going to buy it and within a few weeks of its release it was in my possession!

Beauty Subscription Box Reveal Birchbox Does ‘Buy One Get One Free’: If you have been keeping up with my posts you will know that beauty subscription boxes are a love of mine and I am always on the lookout for good offers, new boxes and limited editions! In May 2017, Birchbox, a subscription service that has been around since September 2010 for women and 2012 for men, offered customers a buy one get one free box so naturally I had to order one! In case, you’ve never heard of or tried Birchbox, it was created by two friends to make shopping for beauty products easier. As with most subscription box services you can join and cancel your subscription at any time BUT this only applies to the monthly plan with Birchbox, which costs £10 plus £2.95 postage and packaging. When you join you can complete a questionnaire about your beauty likes so that products you receive can be tailored to you in future boxes and you can pick from a monthly, 6 monthly or yearly plan. In each box, you will receive 5 personalised beauty products, and one of those products can be chosen by you or alternatively you can pick the design of the box. The products will be a combination of sample size and full-size items from various brands, some of which will be well known and some less so.
