What Is Optical Character Recognition & How Does It Work: It’s pretty easy to take words on your computer screen and put them on a physical sheet of paper. Just click print and unless you’ve forgotten to fork out an extortion level amount of money for a new cartridge, you’ll have fresh warm satisfying documents just a few moments later. But going in the opposite direction, scanning dead tree information into your PC is actually quite a bit trickier – not because flatbed scanners are so difficult to operate per se but many of them are basically just taking a picture of the document and saving it on to your PC meaning not only will it probably not look very crisp but due to file compression and little bits of dust in your scanner but you can’t edit a clean copy of your document in your favorite word processor because the scanner won’t recognize each individual character. Fortunately there are number of devices out there that enable “Optical Character Recognition” or OCR where each character on a page is scanned individually so your papers are uploaded as actual text documents instead of messy JPEGs. But how exactly does that work and is one kind of optical scanner better than another? Well, because the whole concept of translating text into electronic signal is pretty broad, there have been lots of different implementations of OCR over the years. In fact, one of the earliest electric OCR devices, the “Optophone”, was invented all the way back in 1914.

The Latest & Most Plausible Theories About Déjà Vu: Most, if not all of us, have at some point or another, experienced déjà vu. It’s an eerie feeling that something you’ve experienced seems really familiar. Even though a lot of people claim it has a spiritual basis, perhaps linked to reincarnation. It’s odd and these episodes last anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds and most people have experienced it at one point or another. Two-third of all people say they’ve experienced déjà vu before and I can’t conceive of what the other one-third are thinking. The term déjà vu – which translates “already seen” in French – was first coined in 1876 by French philosopher Emile Boirac and he coined the term in his book, L’Avenir des Sciences Psychiques. In the years since then, researchers studying the phenomenon – have come up with several different types of déjà vu that people experience or we can also think them as different explanations that researchers find while trying to explain the phenomenon. In general, though – it’s lumped into one of two categories:

Who Is To Blame When A Robot Kills Someone: On May 31st 2016, the European Parliament received a draft report from the Commission on Legal Affairs and it was all about robots. The report is actually pretty cool and life we see in the science fiction movies is probably closer than you think. One of the things it focuses on is the concept of liability, who is at fault if a robot injures someone or damages property? They said that, depending upon the level of automation and autonomy, the robot may be more responsible than the creators. Here’s the thought process; If a robot can only do the tasks that it’s been programmed to do, you would say the creators are at fault for any damage because the robot is essentially just a tool. But let’s say the robot can use machine learning and artificial intelligence to adapt to its environment. Well, some environments might be more chaotic with a lot more variables at play and the robot’s behavior, in order to complete a task, might be something beyond which anyone would have predicted. In those cases, the robot is at fault.

Finally, Something That Can Really Scare You Jinn: The jinn we see in pop culture are not the jinn of folklore nor the jinn of various religious practices, not by any means. Instead of friendly, sing-songy kind of character that, for some reason, is bound to a lamp, the world of jinn is wide and varied and jinn, like human beings, have free will, so some are good, some are evil, some are just unpredictable, and we see regional variation throughout history in the way that jinn were treated. This is present in the etymology of the word because jinn would be the plural, a jinni would be a singular jinn, and then also this same root word is related to the idea of genius. You must be thinking “They sound similar but that’s such an old word.
