Russian Artist Personifies Countries As Post-Apocalyptic Heroes: Even though judging people by their race or the country they were born is racism, we can’t deny some countries stand out with particular features. For instance, engineering is probably the first thing that comes to mind if we’re going to talk about Germany and same thing goes for Hockey if we are going to talk about Canada – for some reason. Moscow based illustrator, Anastasia Bulgakova, took this concept to a whole new level. She illustrates countries like post-apocalyptic heroes and the results are a lot better than what we expect.

35 Hilarious Comics By Gudim That Make Absolutely No Sense: What if life doesn’t actually how we see it? Could there be a deeper meaning behind the objects we see or the events we go through? Anton Gudim might just have the answers for all that. Moscow-based illustrator crates abstract illustrations that will make you question the life or at least make you think deeper for a couple of minutes. Some of his illustrations criticize today’s life while some of them give behind-the-scene meaning to everyday stuff.

20 Funny Mid-Performance Faces Of Olympic Figure Skaters: Ice skating seems fun – you just let yourself slide on a surface with almost no friction. But what about figure skating? Thanks to high-definition camera technology, high-precision laser-cut lenses allow us to see more than just the way skaters move on ice – their faces. Skating on ice is actually child’s play but describing “figure skating” as “skating on ice” is just an understatement. High speeds, dangerous moves and succeeding all of these with a partner results in these hilarious faces.

Artist Creates Amazing Sculptures By Carving Books: Guy Laramée is an artist whom works include stage writing, directing, composing, singing, painting and writing. However, I think the most amazing art he’s done is probably books. I am not talking about the books he’s written, I am talking about the books he’s carved. If you ever watched book carving videos from YouTube, you’d know that book carving requires a lot of skill and it is quite messy. This guy (see what I did there?) on the other hand has mastered it and almost all of his works look like they came out of Lord of the Rings movie. You have to see every detail of his art to appreciate these masterpieces and luckily I got my hands on close-up photos of his works.

What Is Optical Character Recognition & How Does It Work: It’s pretty easy to take words on your computer screen and put them on a physical sheet of paper. Just click print and unless you’ve forgotten to fork out an extortion level amount of money for a new cartridge, you’ll have fresh warm satisfying documents just a few moments later. But going in the opposite direction, scanning dead tree information into your PC is actually quite a bit trickier – not because flatbed scanners are so difficult to operate per se but many of them are basically just taking a picture of the document and saving it on to your PC meaning not only will it probably not look very crisp but due to file compression and little bits of dust in your scanner but you can’t edit a clean copy of your document in your favorite word processor because the scanner won’t recognize each individual character. Fortunately there are number of devices out there that enable “Optical Character Recognition” or OCR where each character on a page is scanned individually so your papers are uploaded as actual text documents instead of messy JPEGs. But how exactly does that work and is one kind of optical scanner better than another? Well, because the whole concept of translating text into electronic signal is pretty broad, there have been lots of different implementations of OCR over the years. In fact, one of the earliest electric OCR devices, the “Optophone”, was invented all the way back in 1914.

Artist Turns Famous Actors Into Russian Generals: Photoshop artist opens a Tumblr account, turns celebrities into Russian generals and oddly enough, they look so realistic, don’t they? Do you wonder why these paintings look too genuine? Because they are actual painting made by portrait artist George Dawe. This English portrait artist painted about 330 portraits of Russian generals during Napoleon’s invasion of Russia for the Military Gallery of the Winter Palace – Saint Petersburg, Russia. Anonymous Photoshop artist get his hands on these paintings – not the actual paintings but the digital ones – and now he is placing famous actors’ face on Russian generals in a very glorious way using Photoshop. I’ve collected some of my personal favorites, if you want to see more of his work, check out his website & Facebook page.
