Beauty Day Part 2 – Selfridges
Selfridges is one of my favourite places to visit. The Birmingham branch is very good and they also host beauty events which I always attend, but the London branch is makeup heaven!!! Selfridges stocks some great brands and they also have regular exclusives which I love to keep track of! On my beauty day, I wandered round most of the concessions to see what new and exciting products had been unveiled.
Estee Lauder
Admittedly, until recently, I had not paid much attention to Estee Lauder. The only product I was interested to test was the Double Wear Foundation as so many women had praised it (I now have this foundation and it is one of my top five!). However on this day, they displayed the new Victoria Beckham Autumn/Winter collection, which stood out a mile away:
There is something for everyone in this collection, to suit different looks and skin tones. The range is divided into City looks, from London to L.A. to Paris. You can buy an entire look or mix and match different items from different cities. The quality of the products is excellent and everything has been designed to work cohesively. I tried the Fired Crystal Lip Gloss in store and it is one of the most comfortable hydrating lip glosses I have ever worn! I wore it for the entire day and my lips did not dry out or become sticky and there was still a sheen left by the time I got home. I will definitely buy the gloss at some point soon and highly recommend checking out her collection!
Nars
Nars was recommended to me by a good friend many years ago. However I never tried their beauty products until the last couple of years and once I did I could understand why my friend loved them so much. Everything I have bought from Nars has always been top quality and super pigmented. Their concealers are in my top 5 favourites and they always release unusual and beautiful collections. On the day of my visit to their stand, they were promoting the new Powermatte Lip Pigments:
These liquid lipsticks are amazing! They have brought out a lovely set of shades and all of them are super intense in colour and once dry they don’t move. Since I saw them on this day I have bought 2 of them and they are probably my favourite matte liquid lipsticks! They don’t dry out my lips which many liquid lipsticks do and they retain their colour for hours. I also love the application wand, which is firm and slightly pointed so you can actually line your lips with it if you don’t want to use a lip liner. A definite winner for me!
After this visit, Nars brought out more new collections – the Man Ray range and before that, the Christopher Kane range, check them out!
Charlotte Tilbury
If you read my previous post about this brand you will know how much I love her! Her makeup is glamorous, elegant and easy to master. When I visited her stand she had released two new items, a contour and highlight wand set and Matte Liquid Hollywood Lipsticks:
The contour and highlight set are ridiculously easy to use and give a beautiful natural looking result. I asked one of the representatives to try them on me and I was so pleased with the result that I bought them immediately! As for the liquid lipsticks, there were some lovely colours to choose from and I picked a deep red – brown shade. These lipsticks are more like a soft cream than a liquid and they glide onto the lips really smoothly with plenty of coverage and colour. They last a good few hours before fading and my lips were not overly dry by the end of a day’s wear.
Since this day, Charlotte Tilbury has released her first full limited edition eyeshadow palette – I managed to get hold of one as soon as it was released so watch out for future reviews!
MAC Cosmetics
If you read my posts and follow my social media, you will know I am not a huge MAC fan. However, I do buy from the brand on occasion and like to keep abreast of its collections and releases. On the day I visited the concession there were A LOT of new products!
The Nicki Minaj collection was one of the main attractions. She has introduced a number of natural looking lipsticks with MAC, all of which are moisturising and wearable. I did not buy any of them myself as I have so many lipsticks already and also found the colours to be a little too natural/nude for me. The next big display was the MAC Girls eyeshadow palettes. These palettes were actually really tempting – I loved the colours in the Rockin Rebel palette but I decided not to buy it as I have the colours already. The products I did end up buying were the MAC Viva Glam with Taraji P Henson lipstick and lipglass! This set is stunning! I swatched both of them and was hooked. The lip glass in particular looks stunning applied on its own or over other lip products. Finally, I looked at the Eyes on MAC In the Flesh collection which comprises a number of natural and nude eyeshadow palettes. There were some lovely palettes but again I abstained!
Bobbi Brown
Bobbi Brown is a long time staple brand of mine and I always check her ranges for new releases. On this day she was promoting her new Highlighting Powders:
It took huge restraint not to buy any of them as they are so gorgeous! I already have a previous highlighting powder by Bobbi Brown, which I love, and numerous other highlighters by other brands so I could not justify buying these but they are amazing! The colour selection will suit everyone and the pigmentation is excellent. Bobbi Brown has just released a highlighting palette containing 3 of these powders, so I may have to test that out!
Whilst not beauty related, I could not leave Selfridges without a stop at the Selfridges Dessert Stand! I LOVE this part of the Selfridges Food Hall:
Besides makeup and beauty, food is another passion of mine and I especially love desserts! Food is another beautiful aspect of life that I enjoy so after eyeing everything up I decided to buy some macaroons and mini sponge cakes!
And that was the end of my Autumn Beauty Day! It was hugely fun to see so many great displays and products as well as testing and buying items of course! I hope you found this 2 part post interesting and feel inspired to check out some different brands and products in the lead up to the festive season!
